Collaborative Divorce Coaching
What is the Collaborative Divorce process?

It is a different way for a couple to resolve their disputes respectfully without going to Court.

The couple, with the guidance of a team of professionals providing legal, emotional and financial support, make informed decisions and direct the outcome.  Cooperation, full disclosure and transparency are key concepts in the collaborative process, which is geared toward preserving the integrity of the family as relationships are re-organized following divorce.

What is a Divorce Coach?

A trained, licensed clincian with extensive experience in working with couples and families.  A professional posessing and using a large repertoire of professional skills suited to working with divorced families.

A divorce coach assists you by providing support, advocacy and direction in maximizing your effectiveness throughout the divorce process.  The expert in the emotional side of divorce, the coach helps you to:

  • communicate more effectively
  • manage your reactivity
  • learn effective negotiating tools
  • identify and prioritize your goals and concerns
  • work with your strengths
  • recognize your limitations
  • make effective use of conflict resolution skills
  • change unsuccessful communication patterns and
  • develop effective co-parenting skills.

A Coach is very instrumental in avoiding power imbalances.

How is Divorce Coaching done?

The divorce coach is one member of an interdisciplinary team working collaboratively to represent you.  You have your own attorney and your own coach.  So does your spouse.  A financial advisor and a child specialist are mutually engaged by the divorcing couple.

This can be done in a number of ways
  • one on one meetings
  • four way meetings with your spouse and his/her coach
  • six way meetings with both attorneys and both coaches and/or
  • any combination of team meetings deemed necessary.

Coaching can also be delivered by telephone and e-mail sessions and usually requires ongoing conference calls and other communication with the professional team.

You should also know that Divorce Coaching:

  • is confidential to anyone outside the Collaborative Team.
  • requires a contract and an advance retainer fee.
  • is not subject to insurance reimbursement.

If the collaborative process is terminated, all team members withdraw and will not represent the client in any adversarial arena.

Fee:  $150.00 per hour.  Time fractions billed in fifteen minute increments.
